Looking for ways to learn about sustainability & science concepts?
You’ve come to the right place! My name is Jessica Purcell and I am a biologist and science educator who is dedicated to making the science of sustainability accessible to all learners.
After spending the first few post-college years in scientific research laboratories, I pivoted from a research-focused career to one centered around science education, teaching in public schools across the United States for over a decade, as well designing, writing and reviewing online course materials, teacher preparatory materials, and educational assessments for various institutions. After the birth of my second child, I decided to create Thoughtfully Sustainable as a way to share my expertise in science and sustainability education to a wider audience.
I am also a co-founder of Raising Global Kidizens, an enterprise that creates educational workbooks and hosts workshops for young learners to explore the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals and offers corresponding resources to help parents and caregivers raise the next generation of responsible global citizens. You can find my published work as an author in How To Raise a Global Citizen: For the Parents of the Children Who Will Save the World.
You can follow the current sustainability and science projects I’m working on over on Instagram, and dive deeper into my science and teaching background on LinkedIn.
I live in central Pennsylvania with my husband, two kids, and two cats and can usually be found outside, either digging in our gardens, hiking with my crew or attempting to read a book while being cajoled into a game of hide and seek.
My mission is to make the science behind sustainability easy to understand, in order for people to take positive action toward sustaining the health of our planet and all that reside here. Let’s work together to make this a reality!
